Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has long been the holy grail of artificial intelligence — a goal that sparks both excitement and intense debate. As we stand on the precipice of potentially achieving AGI, it’s more important than ever to understand its meaning, the vast opportunities it presents, and the critical risks it poses. Equally crucial is preparing ourselves — societally, economically, and ethically — for the transformative wave AGI could unleash.

What Is AGI?

At its core, Artificial General Intelligence refers to AI systems capable of understanding, learning, and applying intelligence across an array of tasks — essentially rivaling or surpassing human cognitive abilities. Unlike narrow AI, which excels at specific tasks (like facial recognition or driving), AGI aims to tackle any intellectual challenge humans can handle — and then some.
