Context on How Other Technologies Work

This is Andrew Wilkinson, co-founder of tinycapital.com and he’s talking about how he uses Roam Research. When he says, “click into pages and deep dive on my old thoughts,” he’s questioning how the note-taking app supports his creative thinking, specifically, how he can spend less time and attention actively connecting the dots and making sense of his notes.
For context, the big idea that Roam Research offers is bi-directional links, which assist users in the connecting of notes. Page A links to Page C and C to A and C to D to A. When users create these links, the system builds a graph that they can reference to visualize how their thoughts relate.
This methodology is valuable, but has proven to fall flat when it comes to scalability. 1. It requires users to make explicit connections. 2. It requires users to make sense of the relationships they created.

Vartika — I recently connected with @mohnacky, founder of @bundleIQ. This note-taking app auto surfaces old thoughts without the need to click on it. I find this better than Roam.
Amit Patel — I tend to spend 15 mins on daily notes. I then spend another 15 mins “roaming” by reading the links related to that day’s notes. Without time blocks, I’ve found it straightforward to use Roam as only a daily notes app.
Tim Stoddart — Agreed. Daily notes but the act of writing down what I read helps. I also tag things and due dates in the future, so I know when things are due. Def. haven’t seen the light like the (Roam) cult, but it’s useful for me.
Shavin Peiries — I don’t use ROAM, but I know it’s possible for this. You need to save your ideas under the context of finding it somewhere you’d look for it again.
Seth — I’ve been thinking for a while now that what the internet lacks is a personal content management layer. I need reminding to read, consume, and revisit the content I’ve stored in various places. Another reason personal DB hasn’t stuck for me yet. I need it to resurface for me.
Nando. — Be prolific — more is better: 1. Deep-link: add a metadata section on each page with tags. 2. Paraphrase a lot. Build your own set of assertions as Evergreen notes, and deep-link those. 3. Use tags for reminders on particular dates. 4. Pluck things in outlines without shame.
Achieving Scale
We have plenty of work to do at bundleIQ on this front, but the problem Andrew and others like him face is our focus. The concept “resurface” resonates, ‘IQ uses AI to resurface your thoughts based on context.
